Italians call it bolognese sauce, which is a meat-based sauce originating from Bologna, Italy; hence the name. I grew up simply calling it "meat-sauce." I love a great meat sauce and that's largely in part because I'm a meat and potatoes type of girl or because I think I was Italian in a past life. (My love for Italian food is REAL!) Here's my super easy, go to recipe:
Ground beef (using ground turkey/chicken works too)
Italian sausage (optional but I HIGHLY recommend)
Crushed or pureed tomato sauce (based on how chunky you like your sauce)
Sofrito
Olive oil
Garlic paste
Onion powder
All-purpose seasoning (I use Goya Adobo)
Black pepper
Fresh oregano
Paprika
Crushed red pepper
Fresh basil
In a saute pan set to medium high, heat olive oil then add sofrito, garlic paste and crushed red pepper. Brown meat and sausage, seasoning with all purpose seasoning.
Add crushed tomato, onion powder, paprika, oregano and black pepper. Allow to simmer on low for 20 minutes and add fresh basil; you want to keep the basil whole because you'll remove the leaves when sauce is finished and ready for serving. Simmer for another 15 minutes on low, remove leaves, stir and enjoy over pasta.
Love Always,
Nina
P.S.
Taste your meat and sauce as you go being sure to make any seasoning adjustments to your preference.
