My friends and I enjoy getting together for BBQ's and game nights and if we're not hosting then I'm usually charged with bringing some kind of dish. I came up with this super easy recipe after wanting to make a dessert but not wanting to wait a few hours for homemade dough to rise.
I'm usually a stickler for making sure all my desserts are made completely from scratch but I made an exception this time around. I'm also aware that not everyone has the time and patience for making homemade dough for delicious sticky buns. I hope you enjoy this super easy, sweet, sticky and absolutely delicious recipe.
Here's what you'll need:
Buns:
4 Granny Smith apples 4 Pillsbury Crescent Rolls Dough
1 tbsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tbsp corn starch
flour
softened butter
brown sugar
Syrup:
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick butter
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 tbsp corn syrup
1 /4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Peel your apples and chop into small chunks. Place apples in a medium bowl and pour the juice of one lemon over apples to keep them from turning brown. Add maple syrup, corn starch, nutmeg and cinnamon to the bowl and toss to combine all ingredients being sure to coat apple chunks.
On a clean work surface, flour the area and roll out the dough. Lay one pack of dough over the other and using a rolling pin, press them together. You can create one long log with the four packs of dough or two separate logs.
Once you've rolled and pressed the dough out, spread softened butter all over and liberally sprinkle brown sugar on it. If you're doing two separate logs, only spoon half the apples on the dough being sure to spread out evenly. Roll the dough and apples into a log and cut into 1 inch slices.
In a medium sauce pot, melt butter, add brown sugar and let come to a boil. Add corn syrup, vanilla and whisk together.
Pour the hot syrup on a baking sheet, sprinkle walnuts over the syrup and arrange rolls on the syrup and nuts. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 35 minutes or until tops are golden browned. When rolls are done and still hot, turn over on to separate baking sheet. Allow to cool and enjoy.
**Note: Be very careful when turning over the buns from the oven. It can get messy and hot sugar burns can get pretty ugly.**
I hope you enjoy these buns as much as my family and I did.
Love Always,
Nina
